PC internals-My Learning Curve

After having to use a PC on a regular basis for a graphic design service for local charities I soon thought out computers were a little more complex than they seemed and were indeed an education in themselves.
Today I am proud of myself that I know what such terms as RAM, GIG (short for Gigahertz which abbreviates to Ghz) and what a hard drive is. You see before certain events I naively thought computers were just to type letters on and the like and had the fun option of connecting to the internet and being to access a whole online library of interesting information, not to mention you could put as much information on it as you would like because it was a big ol'storage unit.
The standard utility of being able to access electronic mail is also a bonus when it comes to PCs. No more waiting for the post man and instant answers even. So, yes the PC is a much better invention than the old word processor even if a bit too distracting with all its additional features.
The particular event that led me to lean about the hither to mysterious world of computers was when a old massive industrial printer I thought I got a good deal on (to begin with) wiped out my nice dell PC. I was in the middle of a rush graphic design job and in the middle the screen goes blank! No amount of pushing the button will turn it back on. Indeed the button has turned a funny colour. It was orange instead of green if I recall correctly.
The PC Technician that eventually came to fix it said the printer had “fried” (What? Theres oil in that thing?) the CPU. Least I think thats what he said. Either that or the mother board. Apparently, the motherboard is the “brain” of the computer. I looked it up on my new computer he sold me instead of fixing that one.
You know in retrospect, if I wanted a new computer I wouldn’t have spent all that money on a technician to fix the one I had PLUS the exhorbitant fee! Oh and about a year later I learnt what a hard drive was. Its that square thing with all my work on I let him have for free–
