The European Commission is about to investigate the quality of services offered by broadband providers in the European Union. The inquiry;s main aim would be to establish the prices of internet across the Union and to determine what developments in terms of legislation need to be conducted in order for the people within the Community to get reasonably priced internet. According to BBC, the Commission would be investigating all countries in the EU particularly paying attention to the countries in the Eurozone and Eastern Europe.

One of the main reasons why the inquiry is about to take place is that many companies within the EU are supposed to be violating the competition law requirements. Many broadband service providers take advantage of their position as strong players on a national market and deliver misleading information about the quality of the internet they supply to customers. For example, the Bulgarian Vivacom internet distributor is advertising internet quite stronger than its actual speed - failure to maintain distribution points has thus led to the dissatisfaction of many customers that would have picked up another provider should they have been aware of the true dimension of the products they were purchasing.

E-Coli outbreak across the Europe

There is a sudden outbreak of E-Coli across the European continent. The finger pointing has begun and all fingers are pointing to Germany as the main source of the outbreak. Other countries that had been thought to be the culprits; Spain is even demanding compensation because it was initially blamed for being the country responsible for the outbreak. European governments are struggling to find the source of the outbreak that has killed over fifteen people and has sickened over a thousand.

The E-coli were first found in Spanish cucumbers that had been imported to Germany. Recent test though have proven that the cucumbers were not the source. German leaders have met together to discuss ways to end the outbreak.

This sudden outbreak has caused increased tensions between Germany, Spain, Russia and France. Russia is going as far as to ban vegetable imports and threatening to ban all vegetable imports from the entire European Union. Spain has criticized Germany for first rushing to the accusation that their cucumbers were responsible for the outbreak. They believe that the accusation which had no proof and damaged the production of vegetables in Spain.

It seems that countries like to sit and blame one another instead of trying to stop the outbreak. This is not the time to find out who was responsible and to talk about monetary compensation but now is the time to stop the E- coli from spreading. Unlike data recovery London they can’t just call up someone to help them, countries need to come together to stop this disease. There are many who are waiting on a cure and fighting with one another will not help cure them.

So as I was using a new data scrubbing software to clean up some data on my computer, I got into an argument with a friend of mine about Star Trek and its cultural impact.

Now for those of you who do not know, Star Trek is a science fiction television series that aired from 1966 to 1969. Yet despite its brief run, Star Trek has left an indelible mark on popular culture, and is much-loved by fans, many born decades after the original series aired.

Besides the original series, there are ten movies, four affiliated television shows, and numerous novels set in the Star Trek universe. Fans, known as “Trekkies”, are especially passionate, regularly organizing conventions and authoring Star Trek fan stories.

The original TV series follows the adventures of the starship Enterprise on an exploratory mission in space. Manned by a smart, diverse crew (comprised of different ethnicities and a half alien officer), the show is hailed for showing harmony among diverse beings, featuring ethnic minority actors prominently, and for depicting women in positive, empowering roles.

The show’s production looks dated to modern eyes, but is impressive for the period. The creativity in depicting space travel and futuristic technology has influenced science fiction greatly in terms of content and execution. Language and references from the Star Trek universe are a part of the modern lexicon.

Star Trek is a cultural phenomenon because it is a shared cultural experience that inspires not only through its stories, but in its storytelling. Star Trek has inspired artists and storytellers, as well as minority groups in the fields of entertainment and science.

Lord Prescott’s insurance advert

Lord Prescott, previously known as John “two Jags” Prescott, is a 72-year-old ex-minister with a track history of binge eating and violence. He is now advertising such delights as home insurance and specialist import car insurance for the likes of Moneysupermarket.

The advert starts with Prescott laying in to a punchbag to the sound of Eye of the Tiger from the Rocky sound track. This, presumably, alludes to the time he punched an abusive member of the public in Rhyl, Wales. The voter had just thrown an egg at him.

Out of nowhere, Omid Djalili appears in (what is presumably) Prescott’s garage. He comments on the lord’s boxing training before making a somewhat snide remark about his car history, gesturing towards two Jaguar-shaped tarpaulins behind him and reminding him that running two vehicles is a pricy operation.

Lord Prescott is then swept off his feet by the punch bag in an extremely undignified manner. He was paid “five figures” for his role in the advert.

Critics of this advert would point out Lord Prescott’s prole roots, his extremely vocal socialist viewpoints and his previous disregard for this sort of cashing-in. What onlookers might suggest is that Lord Prescott has outgrown his infantile socialist past and, via a decade of “champagne socialism”, he became another “class traitor”. Some suspect he now sees himself as “upper class”, although he probably doesn’t. Whether or not he is indeed a working class sell-out, he has not sold out as publically or as ferociously as Iggy Pop.

If you Want to Write, Then Blog

When I was younger the best advice about writing was to simply write every single day. At the time I wanted to be a music writer, so I just wrote everyday in order to become a writer of some sort. However, just writing in a notebook everyday just wasn’t going to cut it, so instead of doing that I decided to set-up a blog on one of the first blog platforms.

The blog is the ideal format for your words. Even if no-one ever wants to read what you write, you are able to actually put your work out there, and be sure that your friends and people will actually stumble across it. It’s useful because it gives you motivation to do it. Even if only a few people tell you that they have read it then it gives you a little extra motivation to do it for a little longer. I got into the routine of trying to do it every single day. This worked out really well for me, and I found that once into the routine you knew that the audience — which had slowly been built up into the low thousands — was expecting regular updates.

So the blog is not only an excellent platform to use in order to physically get your writing out there, but it’s also a very useful way to motivate you to blog. It’s better than writing in a notebook and then locking it up in the desk, in a chest, or whatever oak furniture you have to hand.
